Wouldn't it be nice to have a list of all possible lotto combinations?

3 February 2010

list all lotto combinationsThis, believe it or not, is one of the most common queries we receive. Is it possible to generate such list? Well, as with most things in life, with a bit of hard work and patience, it is of course possible. The question is - do you have the capability to store such list? In soft copy, the file would be in gigabytes, it would probably crash your machine each time you try to open it, unless of course you have a super powerful computer. In hard copy, it will be printed on literally thousands of A4s.

And what benefit is in having all possible 13,983,816 lottery combinations, anyway?

If you want to see the lexicographical order of drawn combinations, you can do this easily with excel - see here

How about a list of combinations that add up to the same value?

Someone asked us not so long ago if it is possible to create a list of all lotto combinations that add up to the same sum. Again, it is possible, but for sums like 150 there are 165,772 combinations, so beware a) it may take a while to generate; b) it may crash your computer altogether. So save all your work before you try to run the file: Download here. Make sure that macros in Excel are enabled.
