For richer and not so rich...

4 December 2009

UK National lottery biggest lowest jackpotTo date, the richest winner in the UK National Lottery Lotto game took home an incredible £22,590,829 after guessing correctly the lucky combination 12;15;26;44;46;49 in June 1995. A bit earlier that year, in January 1995, combination 7;17;23;32;38;42 produced the lowest ever jackpot payout of £122,510, and that's because a total 133 tickets had to share the first prize! Why so many tickets won on that night remains a mistery!

Overall, there were only two draws in the entire history of the UK National Lottery where a second prize (five balls and a bonus ball) generated more in prizes than the first prize itself. For instance in August 2006, lotto combination 19;21;22;38;44;49 gave away £823,654 to a winner of a second prize, and £669,219 to each of the 4 jackpot winners.

I was a bit annoyed that I predicted three 40's numbers for Saturday's Asterope syndicate, but only hit on one of them correctly! johnny_fortuna.

I know the feeling! The only way to get rid of annoyance is to think that you need to get it right only once to scoop jackpot :)
