Catchalotto's approach to improving the lottery odds

In simple Catchalotto terms, the winning formula looks something like this:

Catchalotto lottery equation

where

J = the odds of winning the jackpot

C = number of combinations played

M = methods used to select combinations

L = luck

In terms of the variable C in the equation above, that’s what syndicates are all about. The more people join in = the more combinations are played = the better the odds of winning the lottery jackpot. Note from the equation that you must have at least one ticket in order to stand any chance of winning, i.e. if number of combinations played=0 then the odds of winning the jackpot=0!

The variable M of the equation relates to the rules 3 and 4 as described in the golden rules section.

Each time you play with Catchalotto, your chosen combination be verified against the following criteria:

I) Verification of Duplication - has your combination already been played within your chosen syndicate?

To improve the odds we need to cover as many combinations as possible, why bet on the same horse twice, especially when there are 13,983,816 horses (i.e. combinations) to choose from? Your combination will be verified in that it has not already been played within your chosen syndicate. In such cases, you will be asked to reselect your combination. Reselecting only one number will improve syndicate’s chances of winning!

Please note that this verification is done only against the syndicate you want to join and not across all other available syndicates.

II) Verification by Lottorino - does your chosen combination meet the criteria set by Lottorino Scoring Engine?

Let us ask you a question - have you ever seen a combination consisting of 6 consecutive numbers being drawn, for example 1-2-3-4-5-6? Today, we know that such combination has never been drawn in any of the lotteries worldwide. What’s more is that no other combination consisting of 6 consecutive numbers has ever been drawn in the past!

Do you think it’s possible for such combination to come up? Yes, it is possible, after all, there is no such thing as 100% certainty and a combination consisting of 6 consecutive numbers may come up one day. Do you think it’s probable for such combination to be drawn? Probability laws would suggest that the chances of such combination being drawn are extremely low, or at least lower than some other combinations that can be played.

By looking at the past UK National Lottery draws, we can set certain rules (a.k.a filters, ranges, criterias, patterns) which can be used to determine the chances of a particular combination being drawn in the future. To this extent, we developed Lottorino Scoring Engine.

Every time you submit your combination, Lottorino Scoring Engine will verify your combination against the rules set and assess the extent of deviation of your chosen combination from “the norm of randomness ”, i.e. it will determine how random your combination really is. If as above, you choose 1-2-3-4-5-6, Lottorino Scoring Engine will consider such combination as being far from the norm as no combination consisting of 6 consecutive numbers has ever been drawn in the past and is not really that random. As a result Lottorino Scoring Engine will assign a low probability score to such combinations.

The whole objective of verifying each combination by Lottorino Scoring Engine is that we are able to concentrate on playing combinations that appear to be truly random (i.e. scoring high Lottorino percentages) and sieving out combinations that do not fit into the patterns set by past lottery draw data. The difficulty is in knowing how high the score should be in order for the combination to "have good chances of being drawn". As a rule of thumb, we advise that you play your combination if it scores more than 50% and reselect your combination if it has a lower score. However you can make your own decision as to what this threshold should be by looking at Lottorino scores of previously drawn combinations section.

You can read further information about Lottorino Scoring Engine in the What is Lottorino section.

Finally, let’s recall that the odds of winning the jackpot are minuscule (for instance, the chance of winning the UK National Lottery jackpot with one ticket is 0.0000072%) and unless we play all 13,983,816 combinations, there is no guarantee that we will trap the winning combination. Here is where the variable L of the equation kicks in. Luck is needed to win lottery prizes, especially the first prize! However the good news is that luck is inversely related to the number of combinations played, i.e. the more combinations we play, less luck we need to win the jackpot! No luck is needed if number of combinations played = 13,983,816!
